BIP39 Portuguese Wordlist is the official list of Portuguese words added to the BIP39 repository for mnemonic wallet backups.
Breno Brito is one of the credited co-authors of the upstream contribution that introduced bip-0039/portuguese.txt to the official bitcoin/bips repository.
The contribution also documented the selection criteria for the Portuguese list in bip-0039-wordlists.md, including constraints such as:
- unique identification within the first 4 characters
- no accents or special characters
- no ambiguous Brazil vs. Portugal spellings
- no offensive or strongly negative words
The commit that introduced the Portuguese wordlist to the repository is d353c54, which landed in the repository on September 28, 2020. The same commit carries an earlier author timestamp of September 1, 2020, so both dates may appear depending on how GitHub surfaces the metadata.
